Kirtimukha Nag Crown Vastu Raksha Kavach

The Kirtimukha is the face kept above a threshold. In the Shiva Purana it is the being Shiva created in anger, so ravenous that when there was nothing left to consume it began to devour itself, until only the face remained. Shiva, moved by that obedience, placed it at every doorway to guard what lies beyond.

This is the Nag Crown version. A many-hooded serpent rises over the crest with a small crowned figure seated at its centre, and twin green serpents curve down either side. The face below is finished in black with bared teeth and an extended tongue, closed by a blue and gold collar. Three black silk tassels hang from the base on gold-tone caps.

How it is traditionally placed

• Above the main door, facing outward
• Also kept at an office desk, a shop entrance, or in a vehicle
• Often fixed on the day a family moves into a new home

Specification

Hand-painted, multi-coloured finish. Three black silk tassels with gold-tone caps. Height 25.4 cm (10 in) including tassels, width 8.9 cm (3.5 in), weight approx. 150 g. Ready to hang.

Care

• Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Do not wash.
• Keep the tassels away from flame and direct water.
• Hand-painted, so colour and detail vary slightly from piece to piece.
