Worn on the middle finger of the right hand, as tradition prescribes for Shani remedies.

The Kale Ghode Ki Naal ring is made from iron taken from a black horse's used horseshoe. In Vedic astrology it is associated with Shani Dev, and is traditionally worn during Sade Sati and Dhaiyya periods, when Saturn's transit is believed to bring obstruction and delay.

Unlike a decorative ring, this is not polished or plated. It is dark, plain iron — the way the tradition intends it.

Why real iron, and why it changes

This ring is solid iron, not stainless steel and not plated. Iron reacts with moisture and skin — over time it darkens, and may leave a faint grey mark on the finger. This is normal, and it is how you know the iron is real. A ring that stays bright and never marks is almost certainly plated steel.

Wipe it dry after washing your hands, and rub a drop of mustard or coconut oil on it once a week. It will keep its dark finish for years.

How it is traditionally worn

  • On the middle finger of the right hand — the finger associated with Shani
  • Traditionally first worn on a Saturday, during Shani hora if observed
  • Some families wash it in raw milk or Ganga jal before first wearing
  • It is not removed and re-worn casually; tradition treats it as continuously worn

Getting the size right

Your middle finger is larger than your ring finger — usually by 1 to 2 Indian sizes. If you know your ring-finger size, add 1–2. If you are unsure, wrap a strip of paper around your middle finger, mark where it overlaps, measure the length in mm, and match it to the chart below.

Indian Size Inner Diameter (approx.) Circumference (approx.)
12 16.5 mm 52 mm
14 17.3 mm 54 mm
16 18.1 mm 57 mm
18 18.9 mm 59 mm
20 19.8 mm 62 mm
22 20.6 mm 65 mm

Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest. Sizes are approximate; iron rings cannot be resized after making.
